Modernity and its effect on our life and habits

It seems like the rapid and sometimes ruthless rush after development stripped us of our ability to connect with a world, that is becoming alien to us as technology violently keeps invading our life, placing layers of vacuous sophistication between us and nature.
We are slowly losing the ability to relate to each others on a deeper non-material level.
We need to reconsider our priorities which got jumbled up in our head as a result of the sheer amout of choices, contraptions, and services that our mind get barraged with every minute of the day.
Sifting through this ever-growing pile of "goods" is becoming a valuable skill that could endow us with the ability to navigate our intricate modern life.

Placing possessions in different airtight compartments labeled , "important" and "optional" for example, could be a way to make the prioritizing process more manageable.
The issue is seepage from one compartment to the other are frequent, and could be caused by our mercurial mood, and changing disposition.
Value can be subjective if based on our perception, but it could also be somewhat objective is based on utility.
Having a bike and the skills to navigate moderately rough terrain for example, could be considered as a worthy hobby, and nothing more.
In remote unforgiving places, that same skill could be an invaluable asset that could save lives or get tools and sustenance to remote, not easily reachable places.
