Capitalism, indivualism, modernity and their insidious effects on society

In the past, societies had been based on aggregations of close-knit individial, be it families or communities.
The spirit of these communities was predicated upon noble and lofty principles, namely honor and loyalty
This environment fostered trust between people.
It spread ideas that promoted the well-being and wellfare of each and every members of these communities, communities that grew and expanded into full blown societies.
Commerce prospered as a result of that feeling of dependence, reliance and most importantly an ever-present feeling of loyalty.
This feeling was the mortar on which the establishment of these aggregations of individuals depended.
The self-interest evoked and demanded by capitalism and its, sometimes misguided, rush towards modernity and unbridled comsumption weakened these values, and ultimately
lead to a social collapse, where the nuclear family lost its center-stage role to a more vulnerable collection of self-centered and self-interrested individuals.
To prevent commercial capitalism leviathan from indiscriminately sowing the seeds of its own destruction, a sense of civic spirit should be heavily incorporated within this system, encouraging people to act in the interest of society rather than in self-interest.
In inviting people to consider the broader societal implications of their individual choices, and making then realize that our collective well-being depends on balancing personal aspirations with community needs.
The most resilient communities are built on a deep understanding of the strong ties that exist between individual rights and mutual obligations.
When we expand our outlook and dare to peek beyond immediate personal benefit, we often discover a more meaningful and lasting satisfaction.
