Travelling, its benefits and real goals

Travels were a kind of slow pilgrimages, they lasted for a long time given the means of locomotion available back then.
Those travels were unpredictable and chock-full with experiences. Every step was an adventure into the unknown.
People came back from these long journeys completely remolded, wiser, more forgiving and more grounded.
The encounters and experiences they had during these voyages usually
jarred their beliefs, and turn them into different beings equipped with a richer understanding of life and humanity.
The hassle-free and fast ways of locomotion are useful for our every day commutes. Using these some transportation modes caused travelling to lose much of its essence, intrigue and mystery. The destination became the main goal as travelling was reduced to a dot on the map to reach.
People journey to different places and come back unchanged, with bags full of souvenirs and cameras loaded with pictures.
Travelling needs to be a rite of passage for men, to do commerce, learn about life, then come back mature and ready to tackle life equipped with a knowledge that could only be garnered through a journey of introspection ands self-analysis.
