The padded life : Over-protection and its consequences on our kids

Excessive protection deprives us from the essence of life which is change, flow, and uncertainty.
We often see the glaring consequences of that in our daily lives. Adults scared of water, of darkness, of round vegetables or scared of small, harmless bugs.
All these "manifestations" are the result of a sheltered life spent in a padded society, where everything is softened so that it won’t jar the sensitive, and the delicate among us.
Kids in the countryside grow up hunting birds, dragging snakes by their tails, riding sheep and goats, or catching big, hairy spiders.
This unfiltered access to nature is their playground raises their "panic" threshold. A scratch on the knee is ignored, and a cut is attended to using very primitive methods consisting sometimes in washing the wound with plain water, sprinkling ground condiments on it or sometimes just simply urinating on the wound before taking off to the next activity.
Kids in these environments are healthier, happier, and develop a good foundation that will help them later with their "grownup" life.
Giving the kids a safe environment, especially for the boys, weaken them, as it does not allow them to exercise their problem handling musles and it greatly degrades their tolerance for dealing with hardships, as they dont get the chance to "practice" during childood the skills that are necessary for a fulfilling adult life.
