The cycles of life and our quest for balance

Balance is always a good thing, there is a time for turning the GPS on, and a time for asking strangers about directions after a short but pleasant conversation, there is a time for using the car, and a time for taking a leisurely stroll around the city, there is a time for using our phones to communicate with friends and loved ones, and a time for knocking on doors and having real human interactions over a nice appetizing meal.
Balance between the "traditional" and the "sophisticated" keeps us grounded, it allows us to get our hugs, cuddles and smiles without getting lost in a digital world devoid of feelings and humanity.
Civilization goes from one antipode to the other going through the point of balance, remaining there for a bit beforeventuring towards one or the other extremes.
Civilization has been either too ossified, intransigent and esoteric or too lax and pliant.
We go through a never-ending cycle of changes that are basically and fundamentally the same throughout time, if we remove the different forms of veneer of sophistication they adorn and that gives us the illusion of living a completely different existance than of our ancestors.
Extremes where strife abounds, where extreme peace abounds, where loosening of the moral fabric permeates society or where the erosion of spiritual values is rife are not sustainable states, they always regress back to a more moderate lifestyle.
