Consumerism, the capitalistic trap of our time

Contraptions were simpler, easier to repair and they required varied levels of learning to operate and maintain them.
These devices did one thing and did it well, they also lasted longer, mainly because of their simple design, the quality of their build and the durability of the material used in the manufacturing process.
In an effort increase their profit, companies sought to "
democratize" technology and r
each a wider swaths of the population.
They made technologies that are accessible to larger masses by manufactoring devices that are easier to use through the addition of "layman" friendly interfaces between the harware and the users. These devices were packed with functionalities to the detriment of durability and ease of maintenance.
Companies also started using cheaper raw material to decrease the production prices of their goods and make merchandise that is accessible to the lower classes of the society.
We ended up with complex, multipurpose devices that are harder to fix but available even for the tightest of budgets.
We buy, use, discard then buy again in a never-ending cycle of cosumerism.
