The temporary nature of life and its effects on us

The notion that we have about life and its temporary nature, makes us anxious about not being able to live it to its fullest.
We, as a result, mindlessly speed through our days, trying to cram as much activity as possible in the time available to us.
We see people running with a croissant in one hand, a Styrofoam cup filled with cheap, tastless coffee in the other, only stopping to stare at the bus time table display.
We see people indiscriminately pushing their way though the crowds, elbowing old and young alike on their way to work or to the next meeting.
These scenes became a part of our daily lives. We got so used to them that hardly anybody questions them anymore.
Living in a rush generates an overwhelming amount of stress that hinders our body's ability to funtion properly.
Spending long hours in the company of family and friends, talking, laughing and reminiscing about the glorious past start to look like, past a certain amount, as a waste of valuable time.
We became so addicted to senseless activity, that we struggle to enjoy long days of quiet leisure with friends and loved ones.
Our brain became so overstimulated that it can't relax anymore.
Its akin to indulging in spicy food, it gets our taste buds desensitized to simple aromas, and we start finding these bland and tasteless.
