Life : Extremes , intermediary stages and the fleeting balance

“Extremes” as a way of life can’t be sustained over long periods of time, they tend to balance themselves out in the long run.
If pushed too far to one side or to the other, "extremes" crumble, allowing for more centered ways to emerge and replace them.
A simple example would be that of commodities. In surplus they lose their value regardless of their intrinsic worth. This in turn leads to a decrease in production to match the demand, as a result the prices go up again to their normal level.
Civilizations is another stark example that epitomizes the ebb and flow of human progress.

Civilizations have been for a long time slowly swaying between two extremes, gently and momentarily grazing a flimsy equilibrium state each time they went from one to another opposing antipode.
They went from democracy to dictatorship, from development to bleak backwardness, from abundance to dreary starvation.
Ideas and situations vacillate all the time, teasing an amorphous and transient balance before they embark on a voyage through the intermediary stages that lead them from one extreme or the other.
