Over-thinking, the pathology of our time
The pleasant warmth of the sun lulls us into sleep, and while surrendering to it, our brain assaults us with all kinds of thoughts. Thoughts about things to be done, and issues to be solved.
These thoughts are random, but they make us feel a bit guilty about "doing nothing".
Lying there does not seem productive, so we turn on our phone, and start checking our emails, the news, or anything that would delude our spastic brain into thinking that we are actually doing something useful, not just idling around.
Completely relaxing, doing nothing has a bad connotation in our modern society. Its often equated to laziness and sloth.
We need balance in life. A land that is overcultivated without periods of rest becomes depleted and sterile, and a land that is not used becomes the breeding ground for opportunistic weed, that might take over and prevent the land from yielding its produce.
When we refrain from engaging in any activity, including impulsive thinking , we allow our brain to do its work unhindered by mindless interruptios. This work could include finding solutions to pending issues, or sorting out the numerous life's puzzles that we are barraged by on a daily basis.
Overthinking or impulsive thinking act like a handbrake on a moving car, it slows it down, depletes its energy, and causes a tremendous amount of tear and wear in its parts.
